Elderly man drives vehicle into neighbor's house

Sierra Vista police and fire personnel responded to a single-vehicle private property accident on Cottonwood Drive Wednesday afternoon after an elderly man ran his vehicle into his neighbor’s house.

Structural cracks were visible on the wall of the house in the 1000 block of Cottonwood Drive after the collision. The driver, 84, suffered a cut to his hand but refused treatment at the scene, said Tracy Grady, public information officer for the Sierra Vista Police Department.

The driver’s “mental acuity” is thought to have been a contributing factor in the accident. No citations were issued, and officers will send a request to the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division to revaluate his driver’s license status.

In this particular situation, it doesn’t really serve a purpose to issue a citation,” Grady said.
