Single-vehicle crash kills 1

SIERRA VISTA — A driver who is believed to have over-corrected while steering, was killed in a single-vehicle fatal accident just east of the San Pedro River on Highway 90 last weekend.

Herbert S. Snyder, 36, of Sierra Vista, was driving west on the highway at about 5:21 a.m. Sunday when the Chevrolet pickup he was driving ran off the road. 

Authorities said Snyder over-corrected his steering and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll off the road near mile post 330, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

One person remains in the hospital after a two-vehicle collision near Sonoita last week.

It was Friday, March 30, at about 5:26 a.m. when the driver of a Ford pickup truck heading west on Highway 82 swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. The pickup glanced off the guardrail before colliding head-on with a Ford passenger vehicle, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The drivers of both vehicles were airlifted from the scene to University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

Local man pronounced dead after highway crash

A Sierra Vista man died Friday morning in a one-vehicle collision on State Route 82, at milepost 7.9 eastbound.

Kenneth L. Wilson, Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, after the 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving left the road. Authorities reported the vehicle struck the right-of-way fence off from the eastbound lane, and continued in a southeast direction unitl a dirt berm caused the vehicle to stop. Authorities indicated Wilson may have possibly sustained a medical condition prior to the collision.

Winter weather warning will include entire county

SIERRA VISTA — A winter storm warning will be in effect throughout all of Cochise County from 5 p.m. tonight until 11 a.m. Monday, and the National Weather Service is currently predicting that Sierra Vista will face rain, substantial winds, and possibly snow for the next couple days.

According to Meteorologist Chris Kuhlman with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a large low pressure system moving in from California will bring a cold front into the area sometime this afternoon.

9:22 p.m.  A woman, 21, was arrested for domestic violence/assault and domestic violence/criminal damage, for the incident reported above. She was booked into the county jail.

11:18 p.m.  A man, 49, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in the 90 block of Rainbow Way. The vehicle was towed. He was cited and released.

SIERRA VISTA — A pedestrian airlifted to Tucson after being struck by a car on Highway 90 is in fair condition, hospital staff said Friday.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, Charlotte Brogdon, 41, was crossing the road from the area of the Suncrest Apartments on the north side of the highway to the Circle K on the south side when she was struck near the center of the roadway, said Tracy Grady, public information officer for the Sierra Vista Police Department.

There are no streetlights at that location, Grady said.

One woman was transported to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center Friday morning following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Coronado Drive and Fry Boulevard.

Brenna Quebbemann, 76, suffered from abrasions typical with airbag deployment, said Tracy Grady, public information officer for the Sierra Vista Police Department.

The Honda sedan driven by Quebbemann was traveling south on Coronado crossing Fry while a second vehicle, a Ford pick-up truck, was traveling north on Coronado and turning west onto Fry when the collision occurred, Grady said.

SIERRA VISTA — At least one person was injured after a two-vehicle roll over accident in front of Airport Road north of Sierra Vista this afternoon.

Between noon and 12:30 p.m., a pickup truck traveling north on Highway 90 crossed the median and clipped a red Kia SUV traveling south, said Cmdr. Daryl Copp of the Sierra Vista Police Department.

Both southbound lanes were closed as medical personnel from the Fry Fire District and the Sierra Vista Fire Department treated the driver of the Kia. The driver of the pickup truck denied treatment at the scene, Copp said.

8:29 a.m.  A resident in the 1600 block of Buena Drive reported a vehicle burglary. The victim reported medication, an iPod and cigarettes were taken from the unsecured vehicle.

8:50 a.m.  A man, 35, was arrested for a warrant out of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear after a traffic stop at Avenida Escuela and Blue Bird Drive. He was booked into the county jail.

10:55 a.m.  A resident reported a burglary in the 400 block of South Garden Avenue. The case remains under investigation.
