When mixed martial artist Esteves, “Quiet Riot” Jones landed a solid high kick, the reverberation could be felt clear across the Berean Academy multipurpose room.

Effortlessly dropping to the ground in a front split, Jones inspired a murmur of “Whoa” from the dozens of students gathered to see him.

No reaction from public on change in development fees

SIERRA VISTA — The city’s proposed changes to its development fees garnered no public feedback on Thursday, but that’s not necessarily a surprise. Lowering fees rarely creates a backlash comparable to raising them, especially after the city has been proactive in engaging local stakeholders in the process.

At the scene about 30 minutes later, Laura Landsbereger said she and others were inside making corn tortillas when the area of the roof near an exhaust pipe caught fire. Those present tried to douse the flames at first.

I grabbed the hose and went up on the roof,” she said.

Sporting bright red lipstick for the occasion, Town and Country Elementary School Principal Terri Romo plants a wet one on an award wining pig named Jinx.

It took Romo several tries to finally wrangle the Cochise County Fair Grand Champion prospect pig into position for the smooch as the student body watched with giddy excitement on Friday.

She only agreed to kiss Jinx to help the fundraising efforts of the school’s Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO).

Our View: Chief’s right on need for training

We wish the lawmakers in Arizona would listen and address the concerns voiced this week by Sierra Vista Police Chief Ken Kimmel.

Responding to questions posed by Herald/Review reporter Adam Curtis, Chief Kimmel warned that the freedom to carry a concealed weapon into a local park is a dangerous situation.

If you listen closely, you can hear the screams from the gun lobby even at the mere mention of any restriction on where, when or how many guns can be carried by an American citizen.
