 The Cochise County Youth Orchestra will present their Spring Concert featuring a wide variety of all-strings music. The performance will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 7 p.m. at Kino Hall, located next to St. Andrew’s Church, 800 Taylor Drive, in Sierra Vista. Admission to the concert is free and everyone is encouraged to come out, enjoy an evening of great music and entertainment, and support these young musicians.

The 34th  Annual Blessing of Sonoita Vineyards Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 in Elgin. The Blessing will be held at noon. No reservations required. Admission is $15 per person, which includes wine tasting with souvenir glass, souvenir corkscrew, food and wine pairings, winery tours with the winemaker and a horse-drawn wagon ride through the vineyard.  Lunch will be available from two local restaurants along with horseback rides at additional cost. For details, call (520) 455-5893. The vineyard is at 290 Elgin-Canelo Road.

 DOUBLE ADOBE — Western Junction Bar and Grill and the Southern Arizona Harley Riders (SAHR) are combining forces to raise money for the desperate needs of county food banks and other local charities on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5.

SAHR spokesperson Suzi Brackhahn said, “This is the 20th Annual Run to the Border and we picked Western Junction because Crystal (Miller, co-owner) is easy to work with and is a very caring person. 

They also have enough room for vendor and camping space to hold the event.”

St. Vincent de Paul St. Andrew Conference seeks volunteers to help those in need




Society of St Vincent de Paul, St. Andrew Conference has been a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit provider of Sierra Vista since 1973. 

Our mission is to give emergency assistance to the needy in the areas of prescriptions, utilities, food, clothing, furniture, and local bus tickets. 

In Fiscal Year 2010-2011, 22 members volunteered their time serving 9,135 people. Total assistance of $146,265 was provided to Sierra Vista and Huachuca City families. Conference office hours are noon to 4 p.m. daily,  Monday–Friday, at 616 Bartow Drive.

SIERRA VISTA — The local Sierra Vista Famers Market hosted a special gathering on Saturday in celebration of Earth Day, which is today.

With more than 70 vendors and exhibitors, the market featured a lot more than on a typical day, including live performances by seven different area bands as well as a visit from Smokey the Bear, solar power and water heating demonstrations, an AZ Greyhounds booth, the BLM Firewise Trailer, a Water Wise information booth, and more food vendors than typically present.

 Did you know that over 12.3 million kids are overweight or obese in the U.S.? The lunches that are served in schools are a major reason why this is happening. Serving healthier and more nutritious foods, such as leafy green vegetables, would help lower the amount of overweight and obese children.

Seniors to show off many talents at show




SIERRA VISTA — The public is invited to the Senior Talent Showcase on Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Ethel Berger Center. 

Residents of all ages will be entertained by the many talented senior in our community. 

This talent show will feature more than 15 talented comedians, actors, singers and dancers.

Admission is free; however, residents are asked to provide at least three cans of food or other non-perishable food items to be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food bank.
