Herald/Review

The City of Tombstone’s use of water from the Huachuca Mountains has some people concerned about the impact on wildlife, in an area that is renowned for the viewing of birds.

The Monument Fire last year burned about 30,500 acres and destroyed or damaged nearly 70 structures. Subsequent rains and mudslides crushed waterlines and destroyed reservoirs, shutting off the main source of water for Tombstone last July.

Howard Fischer

Capitol Media Services

A top state economist predicted modest growth in jobs for the balance of this year and the next.

Aruna Murthy of the state Department of Administration figures Arizona will add 47,100 jobs this year and another 55,800 in 2013. That translates out to 2 percent for 2012 and 2.3 percent for the coming year.

That compares with just a 1 percent job growth last year. And the numbers were running in the negative 8 percent range in 2009.

Commentary by Matt Hickman

The Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review

One of the most fascinating and bizarrely conceived studies in recent history was conducted at Duke University around this time last year, but is only now gaining traction in the mainstream media.

The conclusion of the study was that Christians who identify themselves as “born again” suffer substantially greater atrophy of the hippocampus as compared to Protestants and Catholics who do not claim to have had a “born again” experience.
